Eric Arthur Blair (1903-1950) was a radical English journalist, political essayist and novelist who wrote under the pseudonym George Orwell.

His writing is marked by detailed descriptions of social conditions and events and a contempt for all types of authority. He is most famous for two novels critical of totalitarianism, 1984 and Animal Farm (a satire of Stalinism).

As the popularity of digital cameras increases, the quality of color photographs will be more closely scrutinized. For example; colors will have to be displayed the way there were meant to be, meaning, bright, rich and full of life.

I know that some photographers are disappointed with the quality of color pictures on the web. One of these photographers recently wrote in his personal blog, “One thing that has always irritated me about looking at pictures on the web is that browsers don’t seem to display photographs properly. And by ‘photographs’ I really mean ‘colors’.

“I spend a lot of time tweaking pictures in Photoshop, but when I upload them to my Flickr account and look at them in Firefox 2 the colors aren’t the same — they’re more washed out, dull, and lifeless. It’s a subtle thing, but annoying nonetheless.”

Fortunately there is a way to enhance the way colors look on your monitor. It’s called “color management” or “color profile support”.

Color Management is a standard technique defined by the International Color Consortium to ensure consistent color presentation for images no matter if they are displayed on paper, a computer monitor, an LCD TV set, fabric or any other media.

"One Picture is Worth a Thousand Words"

If you are not a professional writer, it’s extremely difficult to describe a situation, a person, an animal or just about anything. Instead of using text to describe, it’s much better to insert a picture. That’s why photographs, cartoons, sketches, paintings or graphs are so successful.

When I saw the two striking pictures depicting a rainbow of parrots and fishes, I knew that using text would be useless to describe them. Instead, I decided to write a post about the beauty of the photographic compositions and the origin of the phrase, “One picture is worth a thousand words.”

The first time I saw this photograph it took me by surprise. The crocodile seemed so real I really thought the poor girl was in real danger of being gobbled up by the giant reptile. If you take a closer look, you'll see it’s a fake crocodile in a public park.

This photographer must really love his trade and enjoys taking pictures up close. If you put both zoom lens together, they are taller than him.

In Search of a True Photograph

Most of the photographs that I find in the media, have a caption explaining the photographs. If the photograph is a work of art, it shouldn't have a caption, the same way a painting should be self explanatory. Beauty should be in the eyes of the beholder, not in the author's eyes.

About two weeks ago, I stumbled into the following photograph of a young handsome boy dressed in dark brown clothes. There is a special look on the boy's face that makes the photograph so unique. (Clue: Look closely at his eyes.)

Another popular photographic global icon is fading from the corporate sky. This time Polaroid is going the way of the Dodo. The digital age has claimed yet another scalp.

The Washington Post recently said;

“When Polaroid users pulled a picture out of their cameras, an image would slowly appear before their eyes. Now, like the process in reverse, the image of the Polaroid instant camera—dimming for years—has finally gone black.”

Give Your Valentine a Gorillapad

Valentine’s Day is right around the corner. So it would be a good idea to start thinking about what you would like to give your sweet heart. I can suggest a nice gift if your darling is a photography fan. The perfect fit for him or her is a Gorillapod. No, it has nothing to do with an African Gorilla, even though it shares it’s strength.

On several occasions in this blog, I've used the cliché, "a picture is worth a thousand words". I know repeating the phrase indicates a lack of imagination. However it's so true. How can you describe the picture below? Words alone can't do it, right?

I've always admired photographers and their creations. I'm currently saving to buy myself one of those magic boxes called cameras and get my feet wet with amateur photography. Until then, I'll just admire in awe what these artists are able to do with their magic boxes and lenses

Today I'll share with you three outstanding photographs that caught my attention early this morning. Two of them depict the stunning beauty of a female face, and the third one shows the pride of a Japanese traffic cop riding his impressive motorcycle.
